Second consultation opens on amended UKWAS 5 text on game-release pens

Following on from a successful initial consultation, stakeholders can now make comment on a second draft amendment to UKWAS 5 requirements for game-release pens.

The initial consultation provided valuable feedback for the revision working group. Most respondents were content with the proposed changes but of course there were also suggestions on further improvement.

Working group chair, Peter Wilson, said:

“Developing an initial revision draft was a challenging task as we needed to consider how best to safeguard conservation values whilst protecting an important revenue stream for many woodland owners and managers. I am pleased that for the most part, respondents were positive about the changes made.

“The revision working group has made some further modest amendments and is now seeking stakeholders’ views on their second draft.”

Mr Wilson urged stakeholders to consider the draft and submit their comments by 20th June 2026.

A final draft will then be prepared taking any feedback into account and this will be considered by the steering group.
