UK all low risk says FSC

UKWAS Executive Chair, Peter Wilson, has welcomed the move by FSC International which classes the UK as a country where all forests are at low risk for all FSC Controlled Wood categories. Buyers of Controlled Wood may now source wood from the UK without conducting further risk evaluations.

Previously only Great Britain was regarded as low risk but the risk assessment has been revised following the implementation of new felling controls in Northern Ireland. As a system of felling licensing is a requirement of controlled wood category 1 (legality), Northern Ireland could not be classed as low risk until such a system had been implemented.
