Consultation on proposed FSC Acetamiprid derogation application

The UKWAS Steering Group is facilitating a consultation by the UK certification bodies, Control Union, SGS Qualifor and Soil Association Woodmark, on behalf of FSC certificate holders.

The consultation concerns granting a derogation from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to permit the use of Acetamiprid, which is legal to use in the UK, but was classed for the first time in March 2015 as ‘highly hazardous’ by FSC so can only be used in FSC-certified woodlands if there are no practicable alternatives.

Acetamiprid is considered by its users to be a very important insecticide for the control of Pine Weevils (Hylobius abietis / Hylastes species) which represents the most serious pest for newly planted trees on re-planting sites in the UK.

How can I find out more?

Firstly, it is recommended that stakeholders view a short film produced by the certificate holders: https://vimeo.com/130773084

Next, download and review the draft derogation application and supporting appendices from https://ukwas.org.uk/documents:
– Draft derogation application
– Appendix 1 – A Brief Overview of Forestry in Britain
– Appendix 2 – Hylobius Control Research Update
– Appendix 3 – Gazelle Safety Datasheet
– Appendix 4 – Product Label – Gazelle
