FSC gives conditional approval to UKWAS

Clarification has now been received from FSC International Centre (FSC IC) on the approval process for the UKWAS Third Edition.

The revised standard has been approved subject to a List of Conditions, Recommendations and Clarifications being addressed satisfactorily within three months of the approval date. Therefore, after discussions between the UKWAS Board and FSC UK it was agreed to ask FSC IC to set the approval date as 1st April 2012 and the effective date as 1st July 2012. FSC IC has agreed and this date will be publicly announced by them shortly.

This date was chosen so that the Steering Group has three months following its meeting on 26th March fully to address the conditions.

Initial analysis suggests that there are no major policy issues to address and that many of the concerns can be dealt with by FSC UK providing further clarifications to FSC without the need for UKWAS text amendments. The main section requiring steering group consideration is Section 1 with further points to be addressed in 3.1.2, 7.1 and 7.2.3.
