The UKWAS standard-setting process conforms to FSC and PEFC requirements.
The standard is revised every five years by means of a three-year revision process. There are three distinct phases and three opportunities for stakeholders to make input:
- Phase 1 is an evidence gathering phase including an initial stakeholder consultation
- Phase 2 is the main revision drafting phase leading to a revision draft for stakeholder consultation
- Phase 3 is the conclusion phase including further revision and preparation of a pre-approval draft for a final stakeholder consultation. After any further amendment, FSC UK and PEFC UK are invited to submit the final draft standard to their international parent bodies for approval.
The standard-setting process is reviewed prior to each revision to ensure continued alignment with FSC and PEFC processes.
