Revision 2013 – 2016
The UK Woodland Assurance Standard is currently being revised.
The Steering Group has now concluded the revision process with the release of a Final Draft to be used by FSC UK and PEFC UK as the basis for their UK national standards. Both schemes will now seek approval / endorsement of UKWAS 4 from their international parent bodies.
Users should be aware that some further changes might be requested by FSC or PEFC to meet their scheme requirements but the target is for UKWAS 4 to be confirmed and published in late 2016.
(N.B. FSC International has requested a number of changes which the Steering Group considered at its meeting on 2nd December 2016 and remitted proposed amendments to FSC; a response is awaited.)
All the documentation relating to the revision, including the Final Draft, is available in Documents.
Under the UKWAS standard-setting process which conforms to FSC and PEFC requirements the standard must be revised every five years by means of a three-year revision process. There are three main phases and three opportunities for stakeholders to make input:
- Phase 1 in 2013-14 was an evidence gathering phase including an initial stakeholder consultation
- Phase 2 in 2014-15 was the main revision drafting phase leading to a revision draft for consultation
- Phase 3 in 2015-16 is the conclusion phase including further revision and preparation of a pre-approval draft for a final consultation. After further amendment, FSC UK and PEFC UK will be invited to submit the final draft standard to their international parent bodies for approval.
